President Obama wants to have health care reforms finished by this year. The exact way that reforms are going to be made are still in question and still need to be made finalized. The total cost of health care in the U.S. is estimated to be around 1 trillion dollars. The government needs to find a way to pay for that, and make citizens pay less. The system is supposed to guarentee health care for the almost 47 million people who are uninsured, as well as make it more affordable for people who have health insurance.
Also, the payment towards hospitals and doctors will be based more on the outcomes of the pacients and not as much on the volume of services provided to the pacient.
I chose this aricle because I recently spent time in the hospital, and the hospital bills were very expensive. I agree that health care needs to be reformed for the better of the citizens. I would use this source again because it is relaible and presented the information fairly and clearly.
Jane, I agree with you that health care costs, especially in a hospital are outrageous and ridiculous. Did you know a hospital bed costs $1,000 a DAY? Think of the hotel suite you could get for that. That’s why I think there’s something to the idea of making consumers pay for more of their care or their insurance. One reason costs are so high is everyone feels like the insurance company is paying for it, so who cares? Do you agree that consumers should pay more, for example through higher taxes? I liked this article a lot. It had a good summary of what health care reform will probably look like and what the options are for paying for it. It also had a matter-of-fact tone.
