1.)Youtube is expecting to pull in about $250million revenue this year. Theyre costs are expected to go up to as high as $700million. Google will end up losing a calculated $470million on youtube.com. Recent talk may lead to Youtube charging people to post videos on their site. Gap inc haha!
Many clothing retailers are struggling with weak sales, but the company hopes lower-priced Old Navy, which has been retooled to cater in part to frugal moms, will be a vehicle for growth. The company launched an ad campaign for Old Navy in February and is overhauling its fashions. So far, the merchandise efforts are gaining traction, but Murphy said there's still more work to be done to take the product from "acceptable" to "great" in customers' eyes.
Old Navy posted just a 3 percent same-store sales decline in the quarter, compared with an 18 percent decline a year ago. Meanwhile, Gap's North American division suffered a 12 percent same-store sales decline, compared with a 7 percent drop a year ago, and Banana Republic's North American division dropped 13 percent, compared with 4 percent a year ago.

White-nose syndrome, a fungal disease that shows as a powdery pattern on the face, wings and legs of bats, is moving far more swiftly across America. Bat colonies have been decimated in at least seven states: New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. At least half a million bats have died, depriving the country particularly in the spring and summer months of a natural pesticide. Bats consume huge quantities of insects: as much as their own body weight during a night aloft. The Forest Service estimates that the die-off from white-nose syndrome means that at least 2.4m pounds of bugs (1.1m kg) will go uneaten. The effects of the disease, though, go beyond an itchy evening in the garden. Without bats, farmers may have to use more insecticide, raising environmental worries and pushing up grocery prices. I chose this item because it sparked my interest. This article actually made me worry. This is the first time I've ever heard about this topic. This article was very informant. i defiantly would use this source again.

Most credit cards not managed by local banks
This article is about how wrong some of us are regarding our credit cards. Most of us believe that the name of th bank on the front of our cards are the ones that gives us the credit but the true is that they dont, the ones who gives us the credit limit and late fees are larger firms who are the ones that managed most small banks and many large ones. I choose this article because the title cought my attention. Im surprise with this. I never thought of this at all. Therefore is hard to say if I agree or not. It is fairly presented because this is something new for me. Yes I will used this news source again.
Joblessness in Mid-Hudson region declines a bit
This article is about how competitive the job market will get when the college kids will come out. There are some fields that are less sensitive to econimic trends and more to democratic such as educational and health services."The slight improvement in jobless rates from March to April is misleading, Nelson said, because it reflects seasonal hiring trends rather than an improving economy." I choose this article because Im graduating this year and soon I will be entering to college so wanted to know which fields are more competitive then others. At this time is not about if we agree or not because everything is about the economy our only choice is to accepted. I think is fairly presented because it is informing us about how competitive certain fields are more then others. Yes I will keep using this newes source again.

Keep it up!
I've been thinking about what to write to you while I was reading your posts and comments and I've decided that since this blog is about learning I would tell you what I've learned. This time, it's the teacher learning from the students, not the other way around. :-D
First, I've learned something really important as a teacher -- that you are far more mature, nuanced and sophisticated thinkers than some people (?) might give you credit for. I'm particularly impressed with how you evaluate the information in your articles and web sites. You write if it's detailed, if it's specific, and if it include both sides. As a result, your judgments have been right on the money (sorry, couldn't resist).
I've also learned something really important about the economy from the items you chose to write about -- that as the economy gets worse, it affects our lives in ways we don't realize during better times. Our health is an economic issue. (Swine flu, anyone?) The opposite is also true -- the economy affects our health, both mental and physical. It affects where and how we live, since more people will be able to afford to buy a home as prices drop. And we're all looking for hope as we read those stories about jobs and unemployment.
Okay, here's the part you're looking for: the questions you have to answer.
Find an article about the economy, finances, or money on the Internet. It MUST be no more than 1 week old. Put the link to your article in your blog and answer the following questions.

Small Banks: Boring But At Least We Are Profitable
750,000 stimulus jobs by August - White House
The Obama administration estimates that the economic stimulus plan will create or save 750,000 jobs by early August. As the administration has said previously, the report touts that the act will save or create 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010. It also points to even bigger stimulus job creation and savings of 6.8 million jobs by the end of 2012. On April 29, President Obama said in a press conference that 150,000 jobs had already been saved or created by stimulus, which he signed on Feb. 17. White House officials have been careful to point out that estimated jobs created and saved have merely slowed continued job losses. The unemployment rate reached 8.9 percent in April, a 25-year high.
I chose this because it shows what the stimulus package has done and hopefully will continue to do for businesses. President Obama is taking the right step in helping people find jobs and save the ones they currently have. I do agree with this because finding a job nowadays is almost impossible and Obama is doing everything he can to help. I think the information was presented very well because it explains what Obama is planning to do to help us Americans. I would definetly use this site again, cnnmoney gives really good details.
City Wont Let Yankess slide on 67g lol hahaha
this article is about how the new york yankess owe the city in 62,574 in rent for the past last year talkin about how they Once again, the Yankees overstated their rent deductions, underpaying the city the rent it's due," he charges in a report out Wednesday and also The BRONX BOMBERS didn't dispute the findings and plan to repay the money just as the team has paid millions in rent after similar challenges arose in the past eight years. AND I CHOOSE THIS article cause i think its kinda of funny that the yankess woe the city money and wont repay it back wen they have the most exspensive players in the mlb....and i agree wit what the article says because its ture that they should pay cause they have the money.....and yess i would use this news source again because they are telling facts and truth about what they write about ...!!!! thank you
April Homes
Tis article is about how the home prices have going down. There is a big difference in the prices from the months before even though is not a lot people see the difference. I think this article is great because is informing us how things are going and it also let us know thatwe are losing jobs but not as faster as before and it also saids that it's seems to be happening the same thing in real estate. I do believed this information have been presented fairly bacause buying a house is one of the most important decision to make. I will used this site again because it gave me enough information.

Seems not everyone wants cheaper Health care...
Ex (controversal) Hospital CEO, Rick Scott is already putting forth an effort against Obamas plan.... BEFORE ITS EVEN BEEN REVEALED! Scotts already put down $5 million of his own money and up to $15 million of supporters money to build resistance against this plan. I do not agree with this at all. I say Obama continue with his plan, and Scott be silenced from this debate. I found the Washington Post to be presented fairly, it was easy to read, understand, and professionally done. I would definately use this news source again.
MTA fare
This article is about how thw ATM's fares are going to increase. They are planning to increase this fares by June 17 for the Metro-North railroad and Long Island Railroad, and Subway and buses will change June 28 and bridge and tunnel tolls on July 12. They have got into an agreement for this fares instead of rising to $2.50 will be $2.25 which now is $2.00. A 30-day MetroCard will rise to $89 from $81. This reduction was made because of the the bailout package that the state Legislature passed last week to plug the $1.2 billion hole in the MTA's $11.4 billion budget this year. I choose this article because I been hearing about this lately on the TV so I was wondering what was this all about. I dont know if I agree with this increase, because I dont used this method of transportation, but if gas is going up I think is fair enough, even though I dont agree with the tunnel tolls being raise because I dont understand what is that going to benefit. Yes I think this information is fairly presented because even thought not all of us used this transportation we should all be aware of what is going on. I will keep using this site beacuse it has become very usefull for me.
Job openings scarce even as layoffs slow
1.this item is about job openings
2.i chose this particular article beacuse jobs are very important first off and there are many lay off and be that are already unemployed so they should take a glance at this.

Private health insurance companies
President Obama plans to reform health coverage costs for insurance, and make health care possible for everyone. At this point, people are worried they won't be able to afford health insurance if they were to lose their job or something were to happen, people shouldn't have to worry so much about affording health care.
Some of the private companies who have been fighting the reform of health care are now saying that they are willing to join in the efforts. This reform could save a family of four 2500 dollars a year from health care costs.
I chose this article because if private health insurance companies join in this effort to change health insurance costs then it will help people a lot. I agree that these companies should reforn and make health care more available to people, everyone deserves to have health care.
Yes, I think this information was presented fairly, because it is just stating what these health companies said they were planning on doing. I would use this site again because they had a lot of interesting articles and information.
Bank of America said to raise $7.3 billion
Bank of America has raised $7.3 billion from the sale of 13.5 billion shares of China Construction Bank, according to published reports. The U.S. bank sold the shares to a group that includes Singapore's sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings, Hopu Investment Management and China Life Insurance. The sale represents the maximum amount Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500) could sell following the expiration of a lock-up agreement covering about one-third of its stake, the reports said.
I chose this because it has to do with the economy and how businesses are handling the crisis. I agree that this is a very good move for Bank of America, it will reduce Bank of America's stake in China Construction Bank to just under 11% from 16.7%, according to the FT. I think it was presented fairly well because it explains what Bank of America is doing to help itself in this crisis. I would use this site again, cnnmoney is very good to obtain information.

The Blackberry Curve is selling more than the iphone
Well i don't know much about phones but the Blackberry Curve is awsome! Its a smart phone, and has a good phone provider. The iphone is good but the phone provider is terrible. The reason it outsold the iphone is because is cheaper and has good phone providers to choose from instead of AT&T.The reason i choose this article because the Blackberry Curve is awsome and make your life easier, but iphone is good too but too expensive in my opinion.
obama to hold talks with Taliban?? What?!

2.i chose this particular article because the swine flu seems to be very serious, every one is interested how deadly it is and there not realize'ing what its doin to the econmy.
3.so i do agree with what they are trying to do.. there willin to reduce the amount of taxes buisness and airline and cruise ships have to pay for health insurance, in order to try and regain control of their economy.

Obama aims at offshore tax havens!!!!
#1. President Barack Obama presented a far-reaching set of proposals on Monday that are aimed at the tax benefits enjoyed by companies and wealthy individuals harboring cash in offshore accounts.
#2.I chose this articale because they could help raise $210 billion in revenues over 10 years, the administration estimates.
#3.yes because Obama said, “there are others who are shirking theirs, and many are aided and abetted by a broken tax system.”
#4.yes the information has been presented fairly because The president thus set up a clash with big business over the tax advantages enjoyed by companies with extensive overseas operations.
#5. o yea like the kool aid man.
real estate and the economy
This article is about the signs of recovery for real estate. Investors and first time buyers are starting to compete for bargain prices on foreclosed houses. Competition helps the economy because it makes prices higher and spending money instead of everyone saving money helps make money circulate through the economy.
In March, houses baught was raised 35 percent from last year, in places such as California, Las Vegas and Florida. A raise in houses being sold and baught is going to help the economy a lot, for investors and banks, because they have to give loans and collect mortages. Housing also helps the stock market a lot. So this should help our struggeling economy.
I chose this article because it has a lot to do with our sturggeling economy and it is showing a way that the economy might be looking a little better. I agree that houses being sold more is going to help the economy and hopefully this is just the beginning for the economy to start looking better. This information was presented fairly, it does give you hope that the economy will some day soon start to get better and we won't always be in this slum.
I would use the New York Times again, it is a reliable source and it has interesting articles.

Great job, everyone!
I've just read your posts and comments, and I'm so proud of all of you!! You obviously used some thought in choosing articles, and many of you used a great deal of thought writing about what you read. I'm particularly pleased that your comments were equally thoughtful and constructive. I've written comments for all your posts; please feel free to respond to my comment. You might also want to spend a moment reading through the other posts and commenting on those, too.
We'll be talking about jobs and work in class this week, so you might want to see if you can find articles about jobs -- especially how to find one in a tough economy. Also, try to use a different source this week than you did last week in order to broaden your knowledge of what kind of information is available on the Internet. As always, anything you find interesting is fine. So that you don't have to scroll all the way down to my first entry, here's what you have to do: Find an article about the economy, finances, or money on the Internet. It MUST be no more than 1 week old. Put the link to your article in your blog and answer the following questions. Please use proper spelling and punctuation! Your entry will be much easier to read.
- What is this item about?
- Why did you choose it?
- Do you agree with what's happening in the news item you chose? Why or why not?
- Do you think the information has been presented fairly? Why or why not?
- Would you use this news source again?

A blog is a conversation. I encourage you to be part of it so we can all help each other understand the tough times we live in. You can do it!
